Kindergarten News November 7th, 2021

  Kinder News 11/7/21


Hello Kinder Families

We have ECO on Thursday, November 11th.  Please help your child dress for the weather (high of 50 low of 27),   I will not be at school tomorrow, Monday, November 8th.  The entire kindergarten and first grade team are at a writing conference.  Karlynn and Ms. Diana will be with the kids to help with everything!  I have left them plenty of fun activities.

I will send out a celebration of learning (progress report) on November 19th, 2021. This celebration will inform you of all the wonderful progress your students have made. I look forward to sharing these with you next week.

Here is a snapshot of the past two weeks: 

-Worked on writing and sounds of letters u, p, v, and qu

-Heart words at, and, look, we, me,  I, am, like, see, I, a , the, my

-Reading groups worked on letters, letter sounds, letter formation and reading predictable books

-Learned about hibernation and how animals get ready for winter

-Learned about how basketball was invented

-We put bird seed out for the birds on the way to Harrison Field at Karlynn’s house

-Started having lunch in the classroom listened to the first Dragon’s Masters book

-Had an amazing pumpkin day celebration

-Wrote about the month of October

-We balanced pumpkins, measured pumpkins, bowled with pumpkins, tested pumpkins to see if they sink or swim, read many pumpkin books and so much more

-We were detectives and went on a heart word hunt

-Earned a jem celebration -an extra recess on the upper playground (we will go this week)

-Counted backwards starting from 20

-Worked on counting to 100 and number formation up to 10 

-Used our math menus during math 

-We worked on the meaning of teen numbers for example 13 is 10 and 3 more

-Learned how to play guess my number up to 20 and 50

-Played base 10 memory with a partner

-Practiced writing numbers with proper formation

-Used our Chromebooks for Lexia

-Class learned how to play UNO

-Design haunted houses for our teeny tiny ghosts


We read many books including:

Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl

The Legend of Spookley by Joe Troiano

Dragon Masters Rise of the Earth Dragon by Tracey West

Mother Bruce and Hotel Bruce by Ryan T. Higgins

Ten Timid Ghosts by Jennifer O’Connell

Possible Questions to ask your child:

What game did you play during ECO?

How does Bruce the bear become a mother?

Why is q always with the letter u?

Would you rather walk or run? Why?

Review heart words (I put them in folders last weekend)
