Kinder News 3/13/22
Hello Kinder Families
Another great week! Mask wearing keeps evolving so please have a conversation with your child about your family's expectations about mask wearing at school.
-ECO Dates for Spring: March 31 w/Fiona, April 14, April 19, May 5 W/Fiona, May 19
-Parent Conference March 25th (No School): I am offering a family choice of in person or virtual conferences. The school sent out the link. After you schedule your time please email me your family's choice.
-March 17-18 I will not be at school. Karlynn will be our guest teacher.
-Spring Vacation April 18-22
Here is a snapshot of the past two weeks:
-Introduced the bossy R (or, er, ir, ar, ur) or R controlled vowels
-Practiced the letter S at the end of words such as bugs (can make the Z sound)
-Blending sounds to make words (CVC words) including the silent e rule (CVCe)
-Continued reading and writing the 25 kindergarten sight words and added some first grade words
-Read several make and take books
-Wrote about the month of February
-Started a new writing unit “how to books”
-Wrote the following class how to pages: How to make slime? How to sled?
-We made slime
-Learned about the Chinese New Year (made lanterns based on the Chinese calendar)
-Made birds nest and protected them from predators (ECO)
-Continued decomposing and composing math unit
-Practiced writing equations and number families
-Played pigs in a pen game
-Used our Chromebooks for Lexia and Sumdog
-Social Emotional lesson focused on conflict (meeting in the middle)
-Finished reading My Father’s Dragon, and started the next book in the series Elmer and the Dragon
Possible Questions to ask your child:
How did Elmer save the Dragon? (hint he used items in his backpack)
What are some ways you can break the number 8 apart? How many ways are there?
What does the word conflict mean? How can you meet in the middle?
Teach someone how to make slime!
