Kinder News #15 May 19th

 Hi Kinder Families,  

There will be only one more kindergarten newsletter. We have a busy few weeks coming up.  Please enjoy the news and updates!


Important Dates:

Field Trip:

We have enough chaperones to proceed with our trip to the Montshire Museum.  Here are some things to keep in mind:

On this day, make sure that your child

  •  On time for school!

  • Bring a snack, lunch (unless you have already ordered a school lunch), and a water bottle (no glass)

  • Wear comfortable clothing and footwear, a hat, and sunblock(please apply before school), extra sunblock in bag, bug spray (optional) 

  • Bring a backpack with a swimsuit, a change of clothes (If the weather is nice, we will visit the outdoor water area!), water shoes, a towel, and a plastic bag for the wet swimsuit

  • Does not bring money - We will NOT be visiting the Gift Shop.


Chick Eggs/Science/theme/SEL:

  • We are on day 20 of egg incubation and are eager for day 21. We are writing in our chick journals and learning what is happening in the eggs daily.  Before I went home today, I saw some cracks!


  • Plant Parts

  • Learning about birds, nests, and eggs

  • Life Cycles

  • 4th Grade Buddies Games

  • SEL -Being flexible, “think like a Palm tree”

Literacy:

  • Focused on silent e rule (hive, robe, cake, etc)

  • Writing sentences (hearing and recording sounds)using prepositions (to, from)

  • k/1st grade heart words (said)

  • Reading in small groups, decoding

  • Owl Time reading buckets

  • Writing in our journals

Math

  • Subtraction focus using numbers to 10

  • Addition review numbers to 10

  • Math Story Problems (addition/subtraction)

  • Number formation 0-20

  • Counting backwards from 29

  • Battle Ship Math to 120

  • All the ways to make 5



Last Day of School:

This year, kindergarten's last day of school is Tuesday, June 17th, 2025. You may remember from last year that we used the previous few school days to screen incoming kindergarten students. If you have any questions, please contact the main office.

Kinder News #14 May 4th, 2025

 Hi Kinder Families,

We had a great week back from vacation. We finished our weather unit and incubated 13 chick eggs.

Important Dates:

Wednesday, May 14th, ECO at Harrison Field, please dress for the weather and check for ticks.

Monday, May 19th, Early Release Day

Monday, May 26th: No School Memorial Day

Wednesday, May 28th, the Last ECO of the year, dress for the weather, er and check for ticks.

Wednesday, May 28th, Kindergarten Art Show at Night 6-7

Thursday, June 12th Field Trip- Montshire Museum

Field Trip:

Our field trip to the Montshire Museum is scheduled for June 12th. We are still in need of chaperones for this trip. If you are planning on attending, could you please send me one more email? It is not too late to complete the paperwork and fingerprints. Your presence as a chaperone will greatly contribute to the success and safety of this trip.

Literacy

  • We are hearing, writing, and reading words with the -ing ending

  • We continue hearing, writing, and reading words with digraphs (sh, ch, th, wh) and consonant blends (cl, st, br, etc)

  • We continue practicing reading CVCe words (make, ripe, rope)

  • We are learning how to use punctuation marks (.  !  ?)

  • We continue to practice lowercase letter formation and writing sentences (uppercase first letter in a sentence and period at the end of a sentence, spaces) 

  • We have been learning bridge words (prepositions) and descriptive words.

  • We continue practicing oral rhyming, blending, and segmenting syllables and sounds in words.

  • We have learned the sight words: a, I, the, can, an, and, see, he, she, me, be, to, do, or, for, my, by, as, has, is, his, you, are, was, they, have and said

  • We are writing and reading using our phonics skills during reading groups

  • We work on the writing process! We think about something we know well (our families, activities), plan our ideas, and then draw and write about them.


Math

  • We continue counting practice up to 100, backward from 20, by tens to 100, by 10s starting at different numbers (2, 12, 22, 32, 42, 52, 62, 72, 82, 92, 102)

  • Addition combinations to 5

  • We continue to decompose numbers to 10 using pictures, manipulatives, and equations (addition and subtraction)

  • We are solving story problems with pictures, objects, and equations.



Science/Social Studies

  • We are discussing how to take care of the earth: reduce, reuse, and recycle waste.

  • We are learning about the life cycle of animals that lay eggs (frogs, chicks, etc)

  • Finished up the weather with some weather experiments

  • SEL Focus: Playground: Being kind - including others, taking turns. Being safe-keeping our hands to ourselves. Being responsible - taking care of toys, lining up when the bell rings

  • Our brain is a muscle/being flexible

  • Bunny day (gem celebration)

  • Everybody loves to read week

  • Salamandors
