Week 6 Snapshot

Here is a quick snapshot of week six

PE:  Last week we practiced throwing overhand at dinosaurs as our targets.  We worked on stepping and pointing to where we wanted the ball to go.  Remember to wear sneakers Monday-Wednesday!

ECO:  We had a very rainy day outdoors...it was a lot of fun!  I do recommend that families purchase rain paints if possible.  We learned about mice and built mouse houses in the woods.  We used our nature journals in the classroom to record what we did at Harrison.  We will go to Harrison Field on Tuesday this week.  Please check the weather report for proper gear.

Science:  We learned about different types of apples, had a taste testing (organic green, yellow and red apples from the coop), and created favorite apple art!

Math:  We worked on writing numbers up to 10,  played pumpkin palooza (using a spinner to place numbers and seeds inside pumpkins up to 10),  and worked in our math journals using graph paper.  We also keep track of how many days we have been in school...27!  Goals:  I can count objects up to 10.  I can write numbers up to 10.  I can count to 100.

Literacy:   We worked on letters p (pan)and f (fun)(how to unlock their sounds and hand writing).  We had our second week of small reading groups.  We all read short predictable books and used their reading journals to write about the books they read.  We used highlighter markers to look for our heart/snap words in the take and make books for the week.  We learned about our super powers...we are all super readers.  We practiced picture power and pointer power!   We started reading a chapter book Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride. Goals:  I can draw pictures and tell about books I read. I can read high frequency words.  I can use my super reading powers (strategies)to read books.  Heart Words/High Frequency Words: me, am, I, see, like, a, the, and

Next Week’s letters: o, g  Heart Word: can, go

Art/Music:  We learned all about different types of lines.  We used these different types of lines to create beautiful line art! In music, we used our bodies to move to the music of The Hall of the Mountain King, and played the name of that instrument game.

Choice Time Options:  We played with legos and read the story Frederick.  They created watercolor rainbows and paper cut mice inspired by Leo Lionnt's story.  They found ways that they can be helpful like the mouse in the story.  We used speech bubbles to share their ideas.

Mindful:  We really like to run the red carpet and the meatball race!  OUr gem jar is almost filled again because they all take such wonderful care of each other.  One student asked me last week if we had a time out spot...it made me smile!

Recess:  Please remember to send in rain gear (rain jacket and rain pants)and boots on rainy days.

*Please remember to put a quick note in red folders or email us about breakfast and lunch plans for the week.

Wish List:  A box of highlight markers...if anyone is going to Staples!

Pumpkin Day:  Friday, October 30th please send in one or two small pumpkins for our pumpkin activities if possible...I do have extra if you can not find one!
